Every person in pain has their own unique experience.
When I start working with someone who has a painful problem, I want to know how it is showing up for them in their life.
How is life different because of their pain?
What are they missing out on?
What would they be doing if their painful problem wasn’t an issue for them?
I also want to know what they have tried so far and what they have been told.
What diagnosis have they been given?
What do they understand about their diagnosis?
What do THEY feel is going on for them?
Then I want to know about the broader picture of their life.
What is their job like?
Do they have to deal with a lot of stress?
Do they still get chance to socialise?
Then we set some Goals.
What will success look like?
What is achievable?
What would show them they are going in the right direction?
What do they need in order to start living a normal life again?
We aren’t treating spines, muscles or joints.
We are treating a person.
And every person’s lived experience of pain is unique to them.
Many people get so lost in a treatment process that they lose track of how they actually feel or how they are progressing.
The more we can understand the context of the individual, the more specific we can be with supporting them as they build out of their situation.
If you are suffering with Chronic Pain please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
